A peaceful demonstration was held at Lipton Circus yesterday calling for an end to gender based violence in Sri Lanka, as part of the global One Billion Rising movement which took place all over the world. The movement is dedicated to all the women and children who have been abused, harassed, raped and killed because of gender based violence. Yesterday’s demonstration was organised by One Billion Rising Sri Lanka and was followed by a candlelight vigil. According to reported Police data for this year, four women/children are raped every day – of them three are below 18 years of age, six women/children are subject to sexual harassment every day, and six women/children are assaulted everyday in Sri Lanka – Pic by Upul Abayasekara
