New court complex for Negombo

President Mahinda Rajapaksa opened a new court complex in Negombo on 12 July brining under one roof many courts spread out in different locations previously. The court complex has two magistrate’s courts, two district courts, two labour courts, one high court, a civil court of appeal and a juvenile court under its roof among other facilities both for the legal fraternity and the public. This will meet the long standing needs of the lawyers and members of the judiciary as well as litigants and the public who need good facilities where justice is administered. Justice Minister Rauf Hakeem said the present era under President Rajapaksa’s leadership was the golden era in the country’s history when it came to expediting the dispense of justice. Chief Justice Mohan Peiris speaking at the opening ceremony sad that with such facilities at disposal, the legal fraternity should strengthen their commitment and dedication to enhance the service and the administration of justice at large to fulfill public expectations. Negombo Bar Association President Nimal de Britto read and presented a Sannasa to the President praising his work to develop the judicial system in the country. Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa, Social Services Minister Felix Perera, Parliamentarian Sudarshani Fernandopulle, Attorney General Palitha Fernando, Justice Ministry Secretary Kamalini de Silva and lawyers from Negombo participated.
