Lasting peace brings Indian Bank back to Jaffna

Indian Bank (IB), the Indian banking giant opened its second Sri Lankan branch in Jaffna yesterday after 76 years since it was closed down in 1935 due to the Second World War. The Governor of the Central Bank Ajith N. Cabraal (right), Indian High Commissioner Ashok K. Kantha (left), and Chairman & Managing Director of the Indian Bank T.M. Bhasin (centre) were present on the occasion.

The Central Bank Governor who was the chief guest at the opening ceremony said that the Indian Bank was the second international bank to open a branch in Jaffna which would give a great boost to the region. The Indian High Commissioner Ashok K. Kantha stressed the fact that the opening of the IB in Jaffna was timely as the people of Jaffna were now going through a historical moment after decades of armed conflict.
