Kadirgamar Institute strikes deal with China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations

An academic MoU was successfully signed between the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute for International Relations and Strategic Studies (LKIIRSS) and the China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations (CICIR). The CICIR delegation was headed by its Vice President, Yang Mingjie and senior Academic Directors. LKIIRSS Executive Director Asanga Abeyagoonasekera, former Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China Nihal Rodrigo and the LKIIRSS research team were present at the signing. Rentao Zhu represented the political wing of the Embassy to the People’s Republic of China in Sri Lanka. The ceremony took place at the Kadirgamar Institute on 13 December. A reputed and established think tank in China since 1960, CICIR stands for targeted research in geographical areas and strategic studies. The think tank works with nearly four hundred researchers through eleven specialised institutes. Areas of discussion and research included counter-terrorism analysis, Indian Ocean security and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. LKIIRSS and CICIR discussed the possibilities in engaging in joint research papers and projects over 2015.
