The Independence Square and its adjacent area was declared opened for public last Saturday (3) evening by Power and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka in the presence of Secretary Defence Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
The site will be open for public 24x7, including the newly constructed bikers’ path and the walking lanes that run across the National Library and the National Archives Department.
The site renovation work was initiated under the close supervision of Secretary Defence Rajapaksa – yet another public project by the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development.
The Tri-services Commanders, Police Chief, Military Liaison Officer Major Gen (Retd.) Palitha Fernando, Chairperson national Rupavahini Corporation Mohan Samaranayake and many other distinguished individuals were also present at the occasion.
