Sri Lanka paceman Lasith Malinga yesterday set a world record by becoming the only bowler to have two hat-tricks in the World Cup history to his credit. This feat was achieved during the match with Kenya.

Malinga finished with impressive figures of 6 for 38 reducing Kenya to 142 runs which Sri Lanka overtook with loss of only one wicket. In the 2007 World Cup, Malinga had his first hat-trick after he took four South African wickets in four balls. Yesterday’s hat-trick was the seventh in the World Cup history and second in 2011 World Cup. The other Sri Lankan to have achieved a hat trick was Chaminda Vaas in 2003 World Cup match against Bangladesh.
