Midst countrywide preparations for the momentous swearing in ceremony of President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s second term on Friday, connected celebrations including his birthday tomorrow as well as ahead of Budget 2011 presentation next week, the members of the National Trade Union Centre and the All Ceylon Bank Employees’ Union staged a picketing campaign in the city yesterday demanding higher salaries and a better pension scheme.
Here is an employee taking part in the protest. The picketing came hot on the heels of Inter Company Employees’ Union (ICEU) staging a similar exercise on Monday outside several private institutions against the proposed amendments to the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) and Employees Trust Fund (ETF) Act - Pic by Kushan Pathiraja
