Arugam Bay Beachwear in deal with Spain’s No. 1 Agatha Ruiz de la Prada

Young Sri Lankan brand Arugam Bay Beachwear will launch a limited edition collection with one of Europe’s top designers, Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, this weekend.

The first such collaboration for a Sri Lankan fashion brand, the collection will be in two phases. The first phase will see the introduction of flip-flops followed by the entire beachwear line, which will include swimwear, T-shirts, beach bags, pareos, etc.

Over the last few years a host of similar collaborations have taken place in Europe and some in Asia. This will be the first for a Sri Lankan brand. Agatha Ruiz de la Prada is one of Spain’s and Europe’s important designers. She has had tremendous impact in the fashion scene in Europe and has been at the helm of her eponymous label for the last 20 years. She retails in Spain, Paris, New York and Milan.

“We saw an interesting synergy between Arugam Bay and Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, as our brand is about colours, and after her showing at Colombo Fashion Week we realised, so is hers. It’s just a start and still a long way to go. Fingers crossed,” said Ajaiy Virr Singh, CEO/Director of Arugam Bay Beachwear.

Agatha Ruiz de la Prada has shown strong collections with an amazing use of colour at HSBC Colombo Fashion Week. This year was her second outing at HSBC CFW. This interaction between top international designer and a young Sri Lankan brand is also one of the key objectives of HSBC Colombo Fashion Week.

The colourful collection of Agatha Ruiz de la Prada for Arugam Bay will be launched at Odel this weekend, followed by a couple of stores in India and later at Agatha’s stores in Europe.
