In its continuous effort to uplift small and medium entrepreneurs and improve quality standards, Walkers Tours launched its third project by introducing16 new Hyundai Santa Fe SUVs (Sport Utility Vehicles) to its fleet.

In early 2004, Walkers Tours and Whittalls Travels, the Destination Management Companies (DMC) of the John Keells Group, launched a trend-setting initiative to introduce a self-financed model for tour drivers to purchase their own vehicles.

The success of the initial scheme led to an introduction of 106 brand new Nissan Bluebird Sylphy vehicles into the tour operations of the John Keells Leisure sector early this year.

“This is an incredible opportunity for the chauffeur guides to pay for their own SUVs within five years,” said Michael Elias, CEO Walkers Tours. The scheme recognised and rewarded seniority and professionalism of the most dedicated chauffer guides, thereby ensuring the finest value added service to clients of Walkers Tours. The scheme endeavours to motivate and uplift the small and medium entrepreneurs and improve the quality standards at Walkers Tours.

Walkers Tours abides by the value ‘foster a great work place’ by recognising, rewarding and supporting employees. Walkers Tours seeks to contribute to the growth of the tourism industry by offering the tourist the best and novel choices. Upgraded vehicle fleets make it easier for tourists to explore newly opened areas in the north and east.

Leisure Inbound Sector Head Vasantha Leelananda stated: “The ultimate objective of this scheme is to benchmark our service levels against the best in the region. Walkers Tours’ pioneering role will assist us to attain excellence in the region.”

“I could not be more grateful for this golden opportunity offered to me. I appreciate the recognition given to me for my long service at Walkers Tours,” said the first recipient of the SUV, T.G. Ranasinghe. “What seemed impossible once has now been attained,” added Ranasinghe, looking forward to his happy journey in his brand new SUV.
