Deep in the heart of an ancient kingdom, snug in a rural setting is a luxurious abode for those who seek the serenity of wilderness without having to give up on the creature comforts of urban living.

Imagine a little ‘palace’ all to oneself. King sized beds, the softest linen, the fluffiest pillows, comfiest sofas, cool wooden floors; and space to breathe, space to stretch, where one can indulge in all the luxury to heart’s content.

An eco haven in complete harmony with nature, Ulagalla Resort – the landmark property of UGA Resorts Sri Lanka adorns the glories of tradition from the outside yet holds all the modern marvels of today on the inside.

Surrounded by a pristine environment in an unspoilt wilderness, this rustic retreat lies in the heart of the Cultural Triangle offering utter luxury and memorable moments to all who have the privilege of visiting it.

In the heart of the Cultural Triangle and hidden away in the quiet village of Thirappane in the Anuradhapura District, this unmistakable resort is just 20km from the historic city and holds the distinction of being the only luxury boutique property that offers such close proximity to the ancient capitals of Sri Lanka – a solitary beacon that stands out as a unspoiled green paradise for those who seek to truly get away from it all. Secluded amidst wilderness and blending perfectly with the surrounds, Ulagalla Resort offers the comforts of urban living to their guests.

Called ‘chalets’ – there are 20 sumptuous ones to choose from: 19 standard chalets and one Suite. Each is a sanctuary to hide away from the cares of the world and be treated like royalty. Surrounded by beauty all around this is a place to feel at one with creation itself.

The chalets offer a choice of views too: a lush green paddy field, an enchanted forest, or the still expanse of a lake. Whichever one chooses, there is a wide terrace and picture windows in each one of them to admire the view from. Outdoors, surrounded by nothing but nature is a large private pool and sun deck, letting one swim or lounge all day with only the birds and the bees for company.

Surrounded by unspoilt nature and tucked away in complete privacy the 19 standard chalets offer two different views – Ulagalla or Wannamaduwa, to choose from. With over 800 sq ft to, space is ample in every one of them. A cosy bedroom; a luxurious bathroom with a rain shower; a separate living room with a 42” LCD TV, Cable channels and video on demand; and a dining area – all elegantly designed are there to make one feel at home. Every facility from IDD phones, complimentary Wi-Fi, tea/coffee making facilities, mini bar, in-room safe, individually controlled air conditioning and more are also featured as standard. The spacious terrace and the totally secluded private plunge pool outdoors make this ‘home from home’ ambience even more perfect.  A miniature ‘palace’ of sorts, the Nikaweva Suite lets one ‘reign’ there in absolute luxury and utter privacy. Here, space rules: with over 1,800 sq ft to lounge in. Two large double bedrooms are separated by an expansive living room leading out to the vast private sitting area and terrace; and of course, the private swimming pool – the ultimate indulgence.

The bedrooms are truly luxurious; gracefully designed with every comfort; and the bathroom of the master bedroom sports a bathtub, an indoor and outdoor rain showers too. 42” LCD TV, cable channels and video on demand makes the living room a zone of entertainment and an elegant dining area offers plenty of room to gather round for meals too. All the requisite facilities from IDD phones to free Wi-Fi are also available as in the standard chalets.

If anything could match the divine surroundings it has to be the fare. While the main restaurant named ‘Liyavela’ offers an extensive menu, guests have the wonderful option of choosing what they want to eat and when they wish to as well. From an indulgent signature dining experience to a simple picnic out by the lake, they can even decide where they want to enjoy their meals too.

Whether it is haute cuisine, spicy rice and curry or a simple salad – everything is prepared to from the freshest of ingredients: from fruit and vegetables grown in the farm garden, to paddy threshed from the resort’s own fields.
