Travelon’s 10th rail tour covers Badulla during the long weekend

With railway package tours, getting popular daily and gathering momentum, Travelon’s 10th rail tour will be pitched to Badulla, yet another popular destination for the Sri Lankans.  



The Luxury ‘Expo rail’ compartment attached to the ‘Udarata Menike’ express train to Badulla will leave Colombo Fort station at 09:30 a.m. Refreshments and lunch served on board the train. The train winds through some of the most beautiful scenery of Sri Lanka.

After the Nawalapitiya station the scenery is breathtaking. Passing Hatton the group could view the upper Kothmale hydro electricity project as well as the two famous water falls St. Clare and Devon.

After Pattipola (location of a rail station at the highest point) the landscape gradually gets an atmosphere of Northern Europe or Kashmir where the misty mountains and Pine trees add to the glorious scenery.   

According to SLGR the ETA at Badulla is 07:30 p.m. and the group will be transferred to ‘Hotel Nestline’ on arrival for check-in and dinner.

Next morning an excursion to Dunhinda Water Falls and later a visit to Bogoda wooden bridge, Demodara rail loop, Dova rock temple and finally Muthiyangana Temple in the evening.

On 27 morning the group will travel with a local coach to Mahiyangana via Loggal Oya, where the famous Buddhist temple is located (Lord Buddha’s first visit to Sri Lanka).  

After refreshments at Sorabora Gedara travel via the newly opened 18 hair-pin bends road, to ‘Albatross Resort’ in Digana where lunch is arranged.

Finally the group will gather at the Kandy station by 02:30 p.m. to board the Kandy/Colombo express ‘Expo rail at 03:00 p.m. the group will reach Colombo Fort by 05:30 p.m.
