Tourism Chamber to be supported by Senior Minister Dayaratne

With the end of the war, the Eastern Province tourism industry is booming with not just foreigners, but also Sri Lankans enthusiastically exploring travel spots in the Eastern Province. The Government is also pursuing an ambitious target of 2.5 million tourists by 2016 requiring a 30% annual increase. “After consideration of the above facts, the Chamber of Tourism & Industry Sri Lanka formulated a comprehensive set of tourism development proposals to be implemented for the province,” said A.M. Jaufer, President, Chamber of Tourism who met P. Dayaratne, Senior Minister for Food Security at his office recently.  Jaufer handed over a document containing the proposals to develop tourism in the Eastern Province giving special emphasis on tourism development in the Digamadulla District. The Senior Minister who also represents the Dagamadulla District agreed to provide his fullest corporation and support to the Chamber to realise some of these development proposals early through the relevant authorities.  The Secretary General of the Chamber U.P.S. Pathirana also participated in the discussion with Dayaratne.
