SriLankan Airlines in a statement yesterday clarified that contrary to various media reports the national carrier’s Chennai-bound flight from Colombo, UL 125, with 102 passengers and 12 crew on board, landed safely at Chennai International Airport on 9 September.
“Flight UL 125 during its descent in Chennai experienced overheating of a hydraulic system and subsequent to the landing, the pilots requested for ground assistance to tow the aircraft. The aircraft was then towed to the parking bay and the technical fault was rectified shortly. It flew back to Colombo after a delay of two hours under the flight number UL 126,” the statement said.
“SriLankan wishes to reiterate that the airline is dedicated to assuring the safety of its passengers and at no point were the passengers and crew in danger, as stated in media reports,” the statement added.
