Sri Lanka and Poland enter into new Air Services Agreement

A Sri Lankan delegation representing the Aeronautical authorities of Sri Lanka, led by Dr. Ravindra Ruberu, Secretary Ministry of Civil Aviation visited Warsaw to hold Bilateral Air Services negotiations with their counterparts in Poland on 14-15 July 2014, with a view to entering into a new Air Services Agreement The delegation consisted of delegates from the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Poland, Ministry of External Affairs, Attorney General’s Department, Civil Aviation Authority and SriLankan Airlines. The negotiations were led on the Polish side by Isabelle Szymajda-Wojtidchowska, Vice President for Air Transport and other senior officials of Polish Civil Aviation Authority, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and LOT Polish Airlines. The meeting was conducted in a cordial and friendly atmosphere, underlining the excellent relations between Sri Lanka and Poland. Subsequent to the negotiations, both parties entered into a new Air Services Agreement, incorporating recent developments in the civil aviation industry and signed a Memorandum of Understanding. Upon its entry into force, this Agreement will supersede the previous Air Services Agreement between and beyond the respective territories of Sri Lanka and Poland which was signed in January 1982. The outcome of these negotiations would be beneficial not only to the increase of tourism and trade, but also the bilateral cooperation between Sri Lanka and Poland. Due to the cordial relation that exist between the Civil Aviation Authority of Poland and the Embassy of Sri Lanka, these negotiations were facilitated and expedited within a short period of time by D.S. De Silva, Chargé d’ Affaires and the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Poland.
