ACL Cables PLC, the pioneer in fire retardant cables locally, has supplied 100% of the wiring for international hotel chain Marriott’s new resort and spa in Weligama. The wiring for the hotel utilised state-of-the-art ACL Fire Zero cables, which is a non-PVC product that has three unique benefits over normal PVC cables, namely it is fire retardant, with zero emissions of black smoke and acidic gases during a fire.
Manufactured to exacting quality benchmarks, ACL Fire Zero cables are being used exclusively in the construction of the 200-room, 11-storey Marriott Resort and Spa, Weligama Bay, to maintain the high international standards of the $ 12 billion revenue Marriott group, which has 4,000 plus properties in 80 countries. This high profile hotel venture, Marriott’s first in Sri Lanka, has been valued at $ 36 million.
Non-PVC, halogen-free, highly fire retardant ACL Fire Zero cables were the perfect choice for Marriott because these provide a greater assurance that an accidental electrical short circuit will not lead to a fire. And even when a building wired with ACL Fire Zero cable catches on fire, ACL Fire Zero ensures that the cabling that is subject to flames will not emit black smoke, nor acidic gases, that could, in turn, impede or otherwise injure people trying to escape.
Rated for use in factories, office buildings, shopping malls, apartments, hotels and luxury homes, ACL Fire Zero, with just a marginal increase in overall project cost, offers a much higher safety of investment comparatively, along with better peace of mind and marketability of the building. This is because it is made and tested to exacting international benchmarks, as outlined by five critical tests that have to be passed, which are only carried out at ACL Cables PLC in Sri Lanka. These tests check the cable’s thresholds in relation to the Critical Oxygen Index, the Critical Temperature Index, Flame Propagation, Acid Gas Generation and Smoke Density, all of which maintains these products to the best international specifications.
A pioneering cable company in Sri Lanka since 1962, when it started operations, ACL Cables PLC currently controls over 70% local market share, with Rs. 14.5 billion turnover, as a group.
