With China becoming a prominent tourism generating market including Corporate Meetings and Incentives, the Sri Lanka Convention Bureau (SLCB) in its efforts to promote MICE from China made an effective presence with SriLankan Airlines and the MICE Industry at IBTM - 10th edition, which was held at the China National Convention Centre in Beijing recently.
The annual exhibition which specialises in MICE (Meetings, Incentive Travel, Conferences and Exhibitions) was attended this time by 400 exhibitors representing 35 countries enabling them to meet over 2,000 buyers including the Incentive Houses in China.
The exhibition provided a platform for suppliers and buyers to meet and conduct business both on the show floor and away from it through a number of networking opportunities. Post show research conducted confirmed 86% of exhibitors agreed that IBTM china was very important for their business and 90% of hosted buyers were satisfied that the appointments matched to their business needs.
“China is still an emerging MICE market for Sri Lanka and there is a lot of work to do in view of the size of this market. Since tourism is producing meaningful results. MICE will follow in its full form but this will take a while until sufficient amount of awareness and interest is created so we will continue to make our presence felt in China through MICE fairs and other modes of communications,” said SLCB Manager Marketing Kumudu Hennedige.
