Sagami Travels & Tours celebrates 20 years of success

Sagami Travels & Tours is gearing up to celebrate its two decades of contribution to the country. An approved tour operator by the Sri Lanka Tourist Board, Sagami Travels & Tours will celebrate its 20th anniversary on 6 October 2013 at the Mount Lavinia Hotel by launching the ‘Sagami Travel Club’, the ‘Fly Now & Pay Later’ scheme and will be adding Europe to its list of destinations. The Sagami Travel Club aims at providing additional benefit to the company’s loyal clients whereas the Fly Now & Pay Later is a facility that offers all future travellers an easy 0% interest payment scheme. While the event will be followed by a grand lunch, the key highlights of the day will be many surprises and the presentation of awards to its past customers. Sagami Travels & Tours’ vision being to keep all travellers happy, it’s Managing Director Gamini Chandrasekra said: “The secret behind the success of our tours is our experience and friendliness. This is proved without any doubt by the comments made in evaluation reports submitted by travellers.” After 30 years of civil unrest and with a dawn of peaceful era in the country, the company decided to venture into the hospitality industry with the intention of contributing its experience to promote Sri Lanka as a beautiful destination and making it a prominent place in the world Map. “Within this period of our travel journey, we have proved to excel our services to our clients locally and abroad. We envisage providing an excellent, comfortable and reliable service to our clients during our journey,” Chandrasekra stated. At present, Sagami Travels & Tours operates outbound tours to many destinations, of which most of it are to Japan. It operates three tours per year to Japan, covering destinations such as Sakura, Tokyo, Hiroshima, Nikko, Nara, Kyoto and Osaka. “We provide best of facilities such as star class hotels, hot springs and the best Japanese, Chinese and Indian food from a chain of restaurants to the satisfy all of our travellers. Our clients are also able to experience the Shinkansen bullet train ride, and can visit the exciting Universal Studios, Disneyland and may more cultural places such as Kamakura and Kyoto which is called the ‘City of Temples,” noted Chandrasekra. Other destinations of Sagami Travels & Tours include Australia, New Zealand, South East Asia, India and Africa. Chandrasekra started his first business establishment with his wife Dharshani Chandrasekra under the name ‘Sagami International’ which was an import/export company. Having lived in Japan in the city Sagamihara, situated near the Sagami river, during the early 90’s, Chandrasekra gave his business the same name, as it is his experience in the city that inspired him to start his own venture. “As a true sportsman, I started the business career after I completed my business management studies. I ventured into import/export and transportation business, locally and abroad under Sagami International and today we have diversified our business and we have ventured into the hospitality Industry as well,” expressed Chandrasekra. It is in the past five years that Sagami Travels & Tours has been involved in inbound/outbound tours and airline ticketing. Acknowledging that the company’s employees are well trained to handle all types of work connected to the hospitality trade he said: “We are proud to say that within a short time we are on par with other companies in travel trade.”
