Leading leisure group Uga Escapes’ Colombo-based luxury boutique hotel, Residence, successfully completed its first year of operation on 1 March, capping off a period in which it garnered steady growth and notable international acclaim.
The past year has seen the chic hotel attract a constant stream of foreign and local guests and regularly feature in premier international publications such as the New York Times, The UK’s Sunday Times and the Financial Times to name a few.
For instance this month, esteemed American business magazine Forbes, in its review of Residence, wrote that ‘this patrician villa is the place to stay in Colombo’.
Residence’s restaurant, the aptly-named rare, which creatively melds local ingredients with continental cuisine, has secured similar praise after seeing its stature as a distinguished dining option grow significantly. Oftentimes it plays host to a range of special events that offer unrivalled value to discerning diners.
Continuing with this trend, rare will launch a new line-up of weekly events to coincide with Residence’s first anniversary celebrations. This new selection will consist of Sundown Wine and Tapas on Sundays, One for One on Mondays and Tuesdays, Ladies Martini Night on Wednesdays and Malt and Meats on Thursdays.
The Sundown Wine and Tapas will look to imbue diners with a deeper appreciation of fine wine, while One for One, Ladies’ Martini Night and Malt and Meats will offer customers great deals on premium meats and beverages.
Uga Escapes Managing Director Priyanjith Weerasooria said that although he was proud that Residence had earned a global reputation for providing guests with exquisite accommodation and quality service in just one year, there was still plenty ahead on Residence’s horizon.
“At Residence, we ensure excellence in everything we do, whether it is the degree of hospitality we offer our guests or the culinary standards we maintain for our diners. Having adopted this attitude since its inception, Residence is determined not to rest on its laurels but strive for even greater success. With our hardworking and dedicated team, I am absolutely confident that we can achieve this lofty goal in the year ahead,” he said.
Housed along Park Street, Residence is an elegant 11-suite establishment which acts as a serene hideaway in the heart of the city. Its intricate architecture and interior design add to this effect and have won plaudits from a long line of visitors, including several world-famous personalities.
In addition to Residence, the other hotels operated by Uga Escapes are Uga Bay in Passikudah, Jungle Beach in Kuchchaveli, Ulagalla in Anuradhapura and Chena Huts in Yala, which opened in December 2015. For more information about all these properties, visit www.ugaescapes.com.
