“How important it is for us to recognise and celebrate our heroes and she-roes!” was an observation made by the famous African-American Poet, Maya Angelou.

She was referring to the need to recognise the contribution made by women to society and the world at large and it is with this in mind that most women look forward with eager anticipation to the celebration of Women’s Day in March.

Traditionally falling on 8 March, Women’s Day celebrates the contribution made by women in all aspects of life. It ranges from a general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women to a celebration for women’s economic, political and social achievements in all spheres of life.

Jetwing Hotels is holding an entire week for women under the theme of ‘Celebrating Women’ from 7 to 13 March 2011.

“The whole idea of celebrating an event for a ‘day’ such as Valentine’s, Mother’s, Father’s and so on does not really seem quite enough does it?” said Hiran Cooray, Chairman of Jetwing Hotels. “We decided to go on a different path this time, one that is definitely less trod. Celebrating women for a week is the beginning of what we hope will be an increased respect and reward for all the women in our lives.”

For although the new millennium is an age in which there have been considerable changes in the attitudes of both women as well as society’s approach to women and women’s rights, there still remain many challenges for women even in the modern world today.

It is for this reason that Jetwing Hotels would like to express its appreciation for women by catering to the needs of women through special offers and packages during this historic week. Jetwing has always taken pride and recognised the value and importance of women, and remains one of the major employers of women in Sri Lanka, with three of its general managers being female.

At selected Jetwing Hotels around the country, women whether they be young or old, will be entitled to a 25% discount on facilities offered by the hotel. For example, there will be spa treatments to relax and rejuvenate those women who need to get away from the hustle and bustle of their busy work environments and to enjoy a little quiet time.

Jetwing Hotels is one of the largest resort chains in the island, with properties nationwide and further more in development. With iconic properties such as Jetwing Beach, Jetwing Vil Uyana and Jetwing Lighthouse being recognised as members of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, others include Jetwing Ayurveda Pavilions, the recently launched and massively upgraded Jetwing Sea, the soon to be opening Jetwing Blue, Jetwing Hunas Falls, famous as the honeymoon hotel of Sri Lanka, Jetwing St. Andrews, Jetwing Kurulubedda and most recently, Era Beach and Tangalla Bay coming under the management of Jetwing Lighthouse and Jetwing Hotels respectively, remain in the hearts of many and many more to come.
