Talking about individuals making it big in a different nation is always a matter of pride for countrymen. Nishan Silva was recently appointed as the General Manager for Radisson Blu Plaza, a part of Rezidor Hotel group launched in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, India.
Being in hotel industry for 20 years and having worked in seven countries, Nishan’s avid interest in food and beverage concepts and trends has assisted him in making a mark in hospitality industry and has taken him a long way.
Under his excellent leadership, the hotel has won four awards in the last five months since its launch, which includes ‘The Rising Star Hotel’ of 2012 by the Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group at a conference held in Wuxi, China. He is an exceptional trainer and mentor with skills to motivate peak individual performance in team members. Under his capable mentorship, Neha Mishra, Marketing and Communications Manager, won the best PR professional of the year award and Dipti Dabholkar won the human resource leader of the year award. A recent addition to this list of accomplishments is the ‘Best New Business Hotel of 2012’ in India awarded by Hospitality India Magazine.
Born to proud parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilmot Silva, Nishan lives in Hyderabad, India with his wife Ruvini Wawulagala and his heart lies with his four-year-old daughter Ayanna.
This young and multi-talented individual attended Nalanda College where he finished his schooling. He graduated with a Masters in business administration from the University of Leicester, UK and also holds a Diploma in hotel operations management which he completed in Lucerne, Switzerland.
Nishan has over 18 years of experience in the hotel industry and believes that innovation is the only way to stay ahead of the competition. For him, passion and patience go hand in hand and he strongly believes that most important strength and asset of any company lies in its people and the same is religiously followed at the Radisson Blu Plaza, Hyderabad.
“My leadership team and I are making future leaders,” stated Silva.
When not working, Silva enjoys watching cricket and playing whenever opportunity permits. However “seeing India winning over Sri Lanka makes me impatient,” Silva noted.
He was a member of his school’s cricket team which represented Sri Lanka in the England and Bangladesh tours and has also played first class cricket for the Sinhalese Sports Club in Sri Lanka in the premier league.
When asked for the secret behind his youthful looks, Silva said, “I am a fitness freak and follow a regular gym regime. I believe in eating healthily and also advice my team at Radisson to follow the same.”
