Three Michelin star celebrity chef and Judge of MasterChef Australia, Marco Pierre White, considered the Godfather of modern cooking, is currently touring and experiencing all aspects Sri Lanka has to offer courtesy of Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts. Marco recently visited the village of Hiriwadunnain Habarana, where he experienced the best of traditional Sri Lankan cuisine. Completely amazed by the conventional cooking methods of the villagers, Marco enjoyed his first Sri Lankan lunch at a local village.
The legendary chef was then taught the art of cooking customary Sri Lankan sweetmeats; including Aasmi, Konda Kevum and Kokis. In addition to being intrigued by this local cooking experience, Marco then visited Sigiriya - to what he referred to as “the amazing palace in the sky” followed by other unique Cinnamon experiences.
When asked about his experience in Hiriwadunna, Marco expressed respect and admiration to the true beauty and culture that still remains in the country.“I am in absolute awe by the simple techniques used by these splendid ladies to create such a magnificent meal.” He further commented: “It has been quite some time since I had a blissful night’s sleep of nine hours, which I did right here at Cinnamon Lodge Habarana among these stunning surroundings”.
The next day Marco flew back to Colombo where he presented a curated Gala British Dinner at Cinnamon Grand Colombo. He also visited the Yala National Park, where he reveled in a thrilling jeep safari whilst staying at Cinnamon Wild Yala. Marco Pierre White’s tour of Sri Lanka is presented by Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts in collaboration with the British High Commission of Sri Lanka, the national carrier SriLankan Airlines, HSBC, Knorr Sri Lanka, Quintessentially Lifestyle, Land Rover Sri Lanka, Hellman Logistics, Sri Lanka Tourism, Cinnamon Air and Trekurious.
