John Keells Hotels PLC won the Gold award for corporate accountability at the STING Corporate Accountability Index 2012 for the ‘Hotels and Travel’ sector for the third consecutive year.
The corporate Accountability Index is a tool which measures the extent to which companies in Sri Lanka have incorporated responsible business practices throughout their operations. The broad categorization is based on five key areas which together form the foundation of holistic and integrated corporate accountability. These include Corporate Values, Stakeholder Engagement, Identifying impacts, risks and opportunities, Policy coverage, Management and governance, Measurements and disclosure.
Corporate Accountability and sustainability is a key factor that direct the business activities of John Keells Hotels, and therefore have taken every effort to ensure that all processors and business practices are carried out in a way that enhances the value of the organization, stakeholders and ensures the sustainability of the environment. This is evident in the employee pledges which cover multiple stakeholder groups and is the governing force behind employee performance. These include ‘I will get it right the first time all the time’, ‘I will care’, I will stand out wherever I am’ ‘I will Care’ and ‘I will be green’. Special recognition is given to employees that go out of their way to adhere to these pledges.
Having been rated against Sri Lanka’s largest publicly listed, state owned and private companies, John Keells Hotels PLC have scored 65.15 in comparison to the average requirement of 49.4 and have been classified as a Gold Level company and has been ranked number 15 of the overall ranking.
