The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Mumbai organised a Sri Lanka Evening to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Independence Day on 14 February at the Chhatrapati Shivaji MaharajVastu Sangrahalaya, Mumbai.
The evening commenced with the National Anthems and lighting of the traditional oil lamp.
Over 500 guests, including the diplomatic community, Government dignitaries, captains of industry, Sri Lankan community in the states of Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa, and members of the Sri Lanka armed forces undergoing training in India participated in the evening reception.
Chief Secretary of Maharashtra Sumit Mullick was the Chief Guest and Rajkumar Hirani, the most successful Bollywood director, was the Guest of Honour.
The guests at the reception were entertained by Captain Damian Fernando, Ranaviru Real Star title winner who also sang the Indian and Sri Lankan national anthems.
The reception was followed by a buffet of Sri Lankan cuisine.
