Emirates will fly double daily to Jordan from 1 October, providing greater access to one of the most popular tourism destinations in the Middle East.
Amman is one of Emirates’ longest established routes. The airline has been flying to the Jordanian capital since 1986, the year after Emirates was launched.
On 1 September last year, Emirates marked 25 years of flights to Jordan, a service that began with just three flights per week.
Emirates currently flies to Amman with a combination of Boeing 777-200, Boeing 777-300 and Airbus A330-200 aircraft, offering an exciting range of in-flight entertainment and the hospitality of highly trained international cabin crew.
The current 13 weekly flights to Amman will increase to 14 per week – an extra flight on Friday – from 1 October.
The 14th weekly flight, EK901, will leave Dubai at 0725hrs each Friday and arrive in Amman at 0920hrs – a journey of just under three hours. The Boeing 777-200 supporting the service and arranged in a two-class configuration, will offer more than 600 channels of on-demand entertainment, deeply reclining seats in Business Class and room to relax in Economy. The aircraft also carries Seatback SMS, email, satellite phones and fresh gourmet dining options for all cabin classes.
The return flight, EK 902, leaves Amman at 1115hrs and lands in Dubai at 1510hrs.
The airline’s top 10 markets for Jordan are Dubai, Jakarta, Shanghai, Seoul, Guangzhou, Beijing, Manila, Hong Kong, Sydney and Los Angeles. Tourists flock from far and wide to see attractions such as the magical city of Petra, the extraordinary desert scenery of Wadi Rum and the restful Dead Sea.
In 2010, total trade between the UAE and Jordan was reported to be over US$ 700 million, according to a 2011 study by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Tourism represents approximately 10% of Jordan’s GDP.
The 14th flight will also enable Emirates SkyCargo to facilitate more international trade opportunities for Jordan’s importers and exporters. The weekly capacity in the belly-hold of the aircraft serving the route will hit 200 tons in each direction, while businesses will also benefit from Emirates’ rapidly expanding network, with new trade lanes emerging with each additional destination, a trend which is set to continue as the 220 aircraft it has on order join its fleet.
