Cinnamon’s city hotels Cinnamon Grand, Cinnamon Lakeside and Cinnamon Red showed the culinary prowess of their respective kitchens and F&B teams by winning a total of 70 medals at the country’s premier culinary competition, Culinary Art 2017, organised by the Chefs’ Guild of Lanka at the BMICH from 28-30 July.
Cinnamon Lakeside, Colombo’s leading urban resort, also won the coveted `Most Outstanding City Hotel Team’ award and the ‘Gold Excellence Award for The Best Cocktail Creation’.
The hotels’ teams won these medals in a fiercely competitive event where 1,700 of the country’s chefs, representing 165 hotels, met to compete for accolades in 34 categories of culinary art.
The competition included areas such as plated appetisers, a five-course set dinner menu, petit fours and pralines, pastry and chocolates showpiece, hot and cold finger food, wedding cake structures, butter sculptures, bread dough showpieces as well as a range of hot and cold beverage related competitions.
The mega event, held in association with the World Association of Chefs’ Societies (WACS), is a biannual affair that helps to showcase the culinary talents of aspiring chefs whilst creating a platform of learning that will set the benchmark for the future. The presentations were judged by a team of 31 internationally acclaimed judges from the World Association of Chefs’ Societies.
