This year, an outstanding award has given Casa Colombo the opportunity to bring prestige to Sri Lanka. It’s quite an achievement to become the best hotel in the country or even in Asia, but there is no bigger achievement than winning a global award at a recognised international award ceremony.
In London, Casa Colombo was awarded the exclusive title of ‘Best Design Boutique Hotel in the World’ 2012 at the Boutique Hotel Awards.
The Boutique Hotel Awards focus on finding the hidden rare gems around the world that give their customers a truly unique and individual experience, they look to provide such establishments with the acclaim and reward that they so dearly deserve, championing hotels that possess a unique character whilst still providing world-class services and facilities. Hence Casa Colombo believes it to be a great honour to win this title above all others as it will bring Sri Lanka more tourism based recognition.
Anyone who has walked into this magnificent 200-year-old Moorish mansion will testify that it is certainly worthy of the international awards which it has received in the recent past. Tucked away in the hustle and bustle of city, Casa Colombo is inarguably the best kept secret in Colombo.
Although this mansion is 200 years old, the hotel’s founder and designer Lalin Jinasena has given it a remarkable twist by blending in a retro-chic contemporary style while maintaining and complimenting its Moorish charms; a significant part of creating this hotel has involved restoring the building back to its former grandeur.
CASA Colombo has received many international awards in the recent past and will no doubt be the recipient of many more in the years to come. The past few months have been quite exciting for everyone at Casa Colombo as they watched their hard work being rewarded by numerous international awards, adding to their repertoire of achievements. In 2011, they received many awards and commendations. In a world where consistency is rare, Casa Colombo has done an outstanding job of maintaining its standards consistently at such a high level. Its efforts were rewarded with global recognition throughout the year. Casa stepped into 2012 with its head held high and continued to impress the local and international community alike when it was voted the second trendiest hotel in Asia by travellers in ‘Trip Advisors Travellers Choice Awards’.
Following that impressive achievement, it was awarded again at the International Hotel Awards – Asia Pacific with ‘Best Hotel Interior- Sri Lanka’ 2012-2013 for the second consecutive year and received the following commendation: ‘Highly Commended Small Hotel – Sri Lanka’.
The awards don’t end there; Casa Colombo travelled straight to Malaysia where the World Luxury Hotel Awards were held, to pick up a very prestigious award which named it the best Luxury Boutique Hotel in the Indian Ocean.
Many months earlier, The World Travel Awards nominated Casa Colombo for the title of ‘Sri Lanka’s Leading Business Hotel’ and similar to the year before, guests and industry professionals voted for their favourite business hotel in Sri Lanka, making Casa come out on top among tough competition. In Singapore, during the ceremony Jinasena proudly picked up an award for the second time at the World Travel Awards.
Receiving global awards is something Casa Colombo is familiar with; many are unaware that it received numerous prestigious awards in 2011 as well. It received a 5-star award as the ‘Best Hotel Interior’ in Sri Lanka by International Hotel Awards – Asia Pacific, which was held in Shanghai on May 2011.
The excitement didn’t stop there for Casa, soon after the hotel was awarded with ‘A Certificate of Excellence’ by Tripadvisor.com, one of the world’s leading review sites.
However, the most prestigious award was yet to come as Casa was nominated for three different awards as ‘Asia’s Leading Boutique Hotel 2011,’ ‘Sri Lanka’s Leading Hotel,’ and ‘Sri Lanka’s Leading Business Hotel’ by the World Travel Awards, which is also known as the Oscars of the travel world. It was awarded with the title of ‘Sri Lanka’s Leading Hotel’ at the ceremony.
