Calamander Group launches Asia Pacific’s longest glass-fronted lap pool in Sri Lanka

The Calamander Group launched Sri Lanka’s first and Asia Pacific’s longest glass-fronted lap pool. Spanning 25 metres, the custom designed pool has been fabricated with a bespoke 48mm glass wall that has been tempered and laminated. This creates an aquarium-like effect, allowing swimmers to view the azure blue Indian Ocean and spectators to view swimmers doing their laps or splashing around with friends. This innovative design preludes the next stage of the reinvention of the famous Unawatuna Beach Resort as the Calamander Unawatuna Beach. Having rebuilt and refurbished the hotel to provide 83 rooms of four-star standard accommodation while showcasing the most stunning beachside restaurant in the country, the old family pool is now being completely reinvented together with an outdoor Jacuzzi and separate kids’ pool to be unveiled in 2015.

And as part of Calamander’s mission to innovate and provide the best guest centered beach resort in Sri Lanka, the 680 Blu Bar has been created with fabulous ocean views and sunsets for those sundowners and beach parties. The relaxed vibe of the bar, which telecasts live sports events and serves superb cocktails late into the night, is the perfect venue for guests of all ages. Calamander Unawatuna Beach maintains the relaxed character of the old UBR, the great food, al fresco dining and its three decades of friendly customer service while it has dramatically improved the quality of its rooms and facilities. The new pools follow Calamander’s signature minimalist design ethos. Dramatic use of colour and quality fixtures and fittings complement the natural beauty of Unawatuna Bay. Future resort facilities will include a children’s playroom, library and games room and conference hall for weddings and special events. In addition to the current tally of sports available, including beach volleyball, table tennis, badminton, yoga, aqua aerobics and kayaking, Calamander plans a mini-golf course and croquet lawn.
