Visa, the global leader in payments technology, has launched a unique initiative that invites travellers who have visited Sri Lanka to showcase the unique warmth they experienced at the island nation.
#RepostSriLanka went live as Visa’s initiative to encourage tourists to visit and discover Sri Lanka and its globally renowned appeal as a great tourist destination.
The Instagram led initiative, estimated to reach 7 million Instagrammers, is expected to gather momentum as an innovative venture that will support and uplift tourism in the country.
Showcased through the @visasrilanka Instagram page, #RepostSriLanka invites all those who have visited Sri Lanka to share their memories, moments and photos taken during their visit on their own Instagram feeds to retell the story of Sri Lanka’s beauty. Contributors can tag their photos with the #RepostSriLanka hashtag and @visasrilanka so Visa can connect with them and inspire others to visit Sri Lanka.
“We are delighted to launch #RepostSriLanka as an initiative for travellers to come and experience the beauty and hospitality of the country,” says Visa’s Country Manager for Sri Lanka and the Maldives Anthony Watson. “As Sri Lanka strives to rebuild its tourism industry, Visa believes it would empower and encourage travellers to visit Sri Lanka more and enable the country’s tourism sector to grow.”
#RepostSriLanka also gives participants the opportunity to see for themselves how increasing tourist arrivals would impact the Sri Lankan tourism sector, empowering the livelihood of thousands of Sri Lankans engaged in the industry.
“Sri Lanka has always been a sought-after destination for travellers across the world. With the #RepostSriLanka campaign, we want to leverage the power of social media in helping the country’s tourism industry flourish. Reaching out to tourists who have visited or are planning to visit Sri Lanka, Visa believes this campaign can boost the thriving tourism sector in the country,” said Visa Head of Marketing, India and South Asia Sujatha V. Kumar.
Tourism is a key segment of growth in the Sri Lankan economy and provides a high level of direct and indirect employment to thousands. As a destination that combines the natural beauty of stunning landscapes and unique locations, Sri Lanka is home to a culture steeped in hospitality and warmth, reflected in its widely acknowledged appeal as a top destination for tourists. Visa will also curate the entries of #RepostSriLanka on a website that will showcase the beauty and appeal of the island nation as a tourist destination.
