Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau in association with The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Warsaw participated in the 27th International Travel Show – TT Warsaw 2019, which was held from 21 to 23 November in the Palace of Culture and Science.
TT Warsaw is a major international event for the tourism industry, focused on establishing commercial and business contacts with businesses from Poland and abroad. The event offers an exceptional opportunity for countries around the world to showcase as tourist destinations.
Sri Lanka was represented by 15 leading tour companies including Tropical Asia Tours Ltd., Kanwel Holidays, Ayubowan Tours & Travels, Golden Isle Travels Ltd., Asian Escapes, Jetwing Travels, Jetwing Hotels, Riff Hikkaduwa, Crystal Holidays, Aitken Spence Travels, Ceylon My Dream, Holiday Concepts, DUS Lanka Travels, NKAR Travels and E-Turismo Lanka.
The Sri Lankan stand at the TT Warsaw was inaugurated by Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Poland C.A.H.M. Wijeratne, by lightning the traditional oil lamp. Embassy officials, representative of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau Sarangi Thilakasena and representatives of the Sri Lankan travel and tourism industry participated in the ceremonial opening at the Sri Lankan stand.
The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau along with the Sri Lankan and Polish travel companies and tour operators, promoted tour packages for Sri Lanka. Many visitors frequented the Sri Lankan stand and inquired about interesting sites and activities in the country.
Tourist brochures in Polish and English showcasing Sri Lanka’s heritage, scenery, wildlife and festival were distributed among the visitors. Tea was also promoted at the fair and large crowds gathered at the stand to taste a cup of ‘CeylonTea’.
Sri Lankan cultural dance performances were demonstrated on all three days of the fair. The Sri Lanka booth was a definite icon at the fair as narrated by the fair organiser and the cultural dance performances were a feast for the eyes of all visitors. The Sri Lanka stand was the most photographed stand at the fair and was the most admired out of all participating countries.
Considering the above factors, the Exhibition organisers awarded Sri Lanka as the Most Authentic and Professional Destination of the Year award at the TT Warsaw Exhibitors night. This achievement is by far is one of the best awards won by Sri Lanka in a European destination. The improvement of the economic status of the Poles and their curiosity about the world are sparking interest in travel and tourism. Nearly 40 million of the population that has expressed this interest has triggered a revival of domestic travel agencies, which are welcoming foreign business partners and expanding outbound travel offers for Sri Lanka.
