The third Annual General Meeting of the Tourism Industry Skills Council was held on 11 June at the NAITA Auditorium in the presence of senior officials from the respective associations and ex-officios from the public sector institutions. TVEC Acting Director General Janaka Jayalath was the guest of honour and the keynote speaker.
The national policy of human resource and employment of the government is to provide full decent productive employment to all Sri Lankans and our donor agency is also committed in achieving a prosperous, inclusive and sustainable community by which individuals and organisations, can improve and retain skilled work force. Hence, this council is responsible to facilitate the capacity building or capacity development in our industry. This was clearly emphasised by the Chairman T.M.F. Packeer at the outset of the meeting.
Tourism Industry Skills Council (TISC) was inaugurated on 25 May 2016 under the Ministry of Skills Development and Vocational Training to analyse the tourism skills market, identify the skills demand, develop tourism as an industry of choice for employment, quality assurance of tourism training and facilitate delivery of quality tourism training to the nation through public private model and as a need a company by guarantee was established a tripartite agreement with Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission of Sri Lanka (TVEC) and National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority of Sri Lanka (NAITA).
The following were elected as Directors and office bearers, nominated by the respective associations:
