The National Apprentice and Industrial Authority (NAITA) is a leading organisation providing skills training through industry apprenticeships.
In addition, NAITA also facilitates On the Job (OJT) training for other vocational training providers. Tourism is one of the main sectors under this scheme.
Some NAITA trainees in the tourism sector temporarily lost their training opportunities at hotels following the Easter attacks and the industry was reluctant to continue their service until the situation normalised. In order to avoid disruptions caused to these apprenticeships, the Prime Minister’s Office instructed NAITA to organise classroom sessions, calling trainees back to NAITA training centres island-wide.
The tourism sector is currently recovering and apprentices have now been called back by the hotels. NAITA is closely monitoring the situation and aims to enrol tourism sector apprentices during the upcoming peak tourism season.
Furthermore, NAITA has made available online the basic training guides for the popular NAITA automobile, electrical and electronic, healthcare, hotel and tourism and agriculture and livestock courses. These training modules can be download from the NAITA website www.naita.gov.lk.
