It is expected that MICE tourism will increase by 5% this year while contributing 20-25% to the overall tourist arrivals of the country, said industry experts recently.
Speaking at a press conference this week, Sri Lanka Convention Bureau Chairman Kumar de Silva said that this year, MICE tourist arrivals will at least reach 20% with 5% growth from last year’s contribution of 15-20%.
MICE tourism added up to the overall tourist arrivals with a 300, 000 tourist arrivals last year, said SLCB General Manager Inoshini Perera.
She also said that India is one of the largest source markets of MICE traffic and that tourist arrivals from India will rise due to improving connectivity while Malaysia, Singapore and SAARC countries have been recognised as potential MICE sources for Sri Lanka’s industry as well.
