The winner of the 2nd Canon Photomarathon held in Sri Lanka recently won himself the opportunity to participate at the Canon Photomarathon Asia 2018, representing Sri Lanka and taking on the challenge in Japan.
The grand prize winner Ashane Milinda Bandara Marasinghe was thrilled to win this prestigious award, and excited to contest against the other Asian winners at Canon Photomarathon Asia next year.
The winner also walked away with a professional Canon 6d Mark II DSLR camera, while the 2nd and 1st runner ups Gayan Asela Jayathilake and G.D.S. Sandaruwan Kumara walked away Canon 80D camera and Canon EOS M6 cameras respectively.
In the Student Category, Laknith Pathmaperuma won the grand prize and Hansana Weeraratne and Sunath Renuja won the 2nd and 3rd places respectively.
Almost 400 participants came to Park Street Mews on Saturday 21 October to take part in the 2nd Canon Photomarathon Sri Lanka. The Park Street Mews was red with participants who were in signature Photomarathon t-shirts.
The two themes for the day that sent photographers racing through the streets of Colombo capturing photographs were ‘Lines’ and ‘Motion’. The array of photographs totalling almost 800 images had captured every angle and colour of Colombo from a variety of perspectives.
Ebert Silva’s iconic tourism double deckers took some of the participants to their scenic locations while the others found their own means of getting to that exclusive shot. Ebert Silva Holidays was the official travel partner of the event for two years in a row.
The participation for this year’s Photomarathon was higher compared to last year. Partly due to online registrations facilitated by the official online partner mydeal.lk and the publicity and advertising from the Official Print Media Sponsor Wijeya Group which included The Sunday Times, Lankadeepa, Daily Mirror and Daily FT.
Sri Lanka Tourism Promotions Bureau was the official government partner who endorsed this event.
Canon Photomarathon is organised by Metropolitan Photohub Ltd. together with Canon cameras.
