Creative energies soar to new heights when the passion for art is pursued in paradise. Imagine painting in a pop up atelier of a renowned artist or in the privacy of your own room or villa.
At Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle Resort, art connoisseurs and enthusiasts can look forward to feasting their visual senses with an artist-in-residence programme which will be launched in collaboration with internationally acclaimed Sri Lankan artist Anoma Wijewardene from 8-15 January.
Guests can tap into their inner talents and express the beauty of the magnificent surroundings of the resort in a personal masterpiece. Anoma will be offering daily sketch classes with in the resorts premises and also private tutorials. Guests of all ages will benefit from the expertise of the artist-in-residence and receive guidance on creating their work. All materials will be provided and each piece can be brought home as a spectacular holiday souvenir.
The resorts atelier is located amidst a 21-acre coconut plantation that opens onto a golden sweep of beach. The picturesque beach and the Indian Ocean create the ideal backdrop for a stimulating open air studio.
Anoma encourages visitors to drop by in her open studio, while she paints or for an informal chat. Anoma will be painting during the day, and some of her works will be exhibited around the resort. Guests can also buy her work, paintings, prints and cards, to adorn their walls at home, or share with friends, a splendid way to relive memories of their Sri Lankan paradise escape.Anoma, whose paintings and installations push the boundaries on issues of climate change, peace, inclusiveness and reconciliation has exhibited at Sotheby’s Gallery Hong Kong and The Art Fair London. Her numerous solo exhibitions have included those in London, Sydney, New Delhi, Kuala Lumpur and The Maldives as well as group exhibitions in Brisbane, Singapore and Dubai.
An alumna of Central St. Martin’s College, University of the Arts, London, she was also a visiting lecturer at several British Art colleges. She has designed for clients such as Yves St Laurent, Calvin Klein, John Paul Gaultier and Ralph Lauren. Her work has been exhibited at the Victoria and Albert Museum and the House of Commons, London. Anoma’s designs have been featured in several international publications, including the cover of British Vogue.
Anantara Peace Haven Tangalle Resort offers guests a unique resort experience in Sri Lanka. Anoma will be in residence at Anantara Tangalle Resort from 8 – 15 January 2018 and offering her insights. She will be opening her pop up studio from 10 am to 1 pm and from 4 pm to 7 pm. Art instruction and sketching classes will run every day from 5 to 6 pm in her studio. A one-to-one diagnostic masterclass for more experienced artists can be also arranged on individual basis with prior notice.
