Premier hospitality chain Aitken Spence Hotels yesterday welcomed the 28-member delegation returning home after successfully representing Sri Lanka at the 2020 Culinary Olympics held in Stuttgart, Germany with a warm Sri Lankan welcome with traditional dancers, flower garlands and hearty wishes.
Recognising the culinary excellence of the Sri Lankan team, the hospitality chain which takes pride in taking Sri Lanka to the world organised the event to showcase their gratitude for further establishing the nation in the culinary world map.
The Sri Lankan delegation won an overall total of 27 Gold, 22 Silver and 12 Bronze medals, with the Spence’s eight-member team from Heritance Aarah bringing home four Golds, seven Silver and two Bronze medals.
The team was led by previous Culinary Olympic Winner and Record Holder as the only chef in the world to have won nine Golds at the Culinary Olympics Chef, and Aitken Spence Hotels Assistant Vice President – Food and Beverage and Heritance Cuisine/Chefs and Culinary Art Ambassador Development Dimuthu Kumarasinghe.
The 25th IKA Culinary Olympics 2020 was held from 14-19 February and saw over 2,000 chefs from around 59 countries crafting over 7,000 menus to be judged by an elite panel of global chefs from all continents.
