Sri Lanka Convention Bureau in association with International Association of Professional Conference Organisers (IAPCO) organised a seminar to educate local MICE (Meeting Incentive Conference and Exhibitions) industry key personnel to enhance their skills in global competitiveness. The main focus of the seminar was how to market Sri Lanka globally.
SLCB created an opportunity for the industry to be trained locally at an affordable rate, rather than participants having to travel to Switzerland or a host-country for a four-day seminar at a very high cost. The event was held from 3 to 6 October, at Taj Bentota Resort & Spa.
SLCB invited three prominent speakers from IAPCO to conduct the seminar. Mathias Posch, IAPCO President, and partner of International Conference Services (ICS) has expertise in managing large scale conferences worldwide. Sarah Storie-Pug, Operations Director IAPCO has developed expertise in organising international association events from 200 to 14,000 participants. Patrick Delaney, Managing Partner, SoolNua, Dublin, Ireland specialises in meetings and events. The seminar included group work and concluded with a group presentation on the final day.The feedback from the participants was promising, with 80% responding that the seminar exceeded their expectation. As Charukshi Perera from Avant Premiere Ltd. said, “If you are always thinking out of the box, don’t forget to think about what’s inside the box first!”
