SLASSCOM (Sri Lanka Association of software and services Companies) together with Australian Technical & Management College (ATMC) will be holding a thought leadership session on 15 August 2011at Taj Samudra Hotel, On Golden Pond, 5.30 p.m. onwards. This session will feature Dr. John Harvey, Adjunct Professor at the University of Ballarat and an Executive Director of IBM Australia speaking on IBM’s impressive journey. This session will be followed thereafter with a networking event among the participants. The event targets not only SLASSCOM member companies but also entrepreneurs, academics, business leaders and professionals.
The session will highlight IBM’s impressive journey for any company facing challenges within the rapidly changing global economy. The IBM Story demonstrates the transformative power of collaboration and the potential to exploit that power to create competitive advantage on the world stage, and chronicles the steps that took IBM from Australia’s leading manufacturing exporter in the 1990s to become the leading exporter of IT services a mere decade later.

The Sri Lankan IT and BPO industry export earnings have been estimated to be US$ 390 million for 2010. Sri Lanka has set a target of US$ 1 billion revenue with employment of 100,000 by 2015 in the IT/ BPO industry.
SLASSCOM acts as the catalyst of growth for the Sri Lankan IT and BPO industry by facilitating trade and business, propagation of education and employment, encouragement of research and innovation, and by supporting the creation of a progressive national policy framework.
