Siedles Ltd., authorised distributor for Sony electronic equipment in Sri Lanka, introduced the Sony 4k and Ultra HD range of televisions to the local market during a launch held on Wednesday (27) in Colombo. The new range of BRAVIA 4k televisions boasts crisper images and more vivid colours with a marked improvement from the picture quality of a full HD (2k) screen as demonstrated at the launch. Sony launched three new series of 4k TVs including the 65” X9000B, the X8500B model which ranges from 49” to 70” and the mammoth 85” X9500B model. The Triluminos Display which is featured on this series of televisions offers purer and bolder colours, clearly visible from its reproductions of shades of red, blue and green. The X-tended Dynamic Range technology allows the user to experience better lighting as well as heightened realism. Speaking at the launch, Siedles Ltd Director Rajan Udeshi stated that 4k technology is the future of home entertainment while adding that the new range of televisions from Sony provides the most authentic viewing experience available at the moment. Furthermore, Udeshi said that endorsing 4k technology at an early stage allows consumers to future-proof themselves. “Just like how DVD technology moved on to Blu-ray, the next step will be towards 4k technology,” he claimed. Sony South East Asia Manager TV Marketing Department Yang Zhening conducted the tech-demonstration at the event, comparing the 4k television capabilities against those of the full HD 2k models. She stated that purchasing a television is a long term investment that consumers make, and investing in technology that is the future rather than the present is part of the 4k appeal. Although priced much higher than 2k televisions, she added that the response has been good in Singapore and Sony hopes high-end clientele in Sri Lanka will respond similarly. Sony has improved the sound quality of the televisions as well. Utilising its innovative wedge shape, Sony has incorporated large speakers into these models which provides more powerful sounds than conventional HD televisions. Sony also introduced its One-Flick Entertainment feature, which allows viewers to easily select their favourite channels or browse content from nearly any source. The One-Flick Remote Control is an intuitive gadget which the viewer can use as a touchpad. It will also give you access to content stored on a mobile device including photos, music and movies.
