In a move likely to dim Vesak celebrations this weekend, prices LPG, milk powder and cement have been increased with effect from midnight yesterday, Ministry of Internal Trade and Cooperative Affairs said.
Price of a 12.5 kilo LP Gas Cylinder has been increased by Rs. 350 and a pack of 400 gram milk powder will cost Rs. 61 more whilst a bag of cement will be expensive by Rs. 70.
The upward revision for LPG and cement follows rising energy prices whilst the reason for milk powder price hike is Government re-imposing the Customs duty on imports on the basis of Rs. 92 or 15% whichever is higher per kilo to encourage local dairy farmers and discourage reliance on foreign products.
