President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday declared that the country was heading for a “decade of development” and 2014 will be of special significance economically and politically.
This prediction was shared by President in his message for the New Year.
Following is the full text:
We are celebrating the dawn of this New Year together with pride in our success in building the nation through a long drawn campaign for development.
We have stepped into the development decade with dedication. You already enjoy its fruits in newly built highways, airports, power plants, ports, roadways and beautification of cities.
Similarly, this New Year paves the way for further steps in this development decade, which will bring you and your children many benefits in the future. I am confident that as earlier you would continue to place your trust in us.
This year will be of special significance in economic and national development as well as in the field of politics. We shall continue to move towards this while ensuring national unity, peace and satisfaction. We have identified this as the correct path for true prosperity of the nation and building of the country.
While building the nation, we have set aside all differences and divisions. As a result there is today a new political and development culture before the country. Further consolidating this, we must forge ahead in the New Year. Having won freedom and peace for the people, we are committed to give them progress and happiness, too.
May this New Year be one in which we will be victorious in achieving the hopes and aspirations of the Nation.
I wish you a Happy New Year.
Mahinda Rajapaksa
