Speculation was rife that UPFA’s Hirunika Premachandra polled the highest in the Colombo District though a re-count was on at the time of this edition went to press following a request from co-candidate Udaya Gammanpila.
In the Gampaha District Prasanna Ranatunga was reported to have emerged on top with Senal Welgama in Kalutara, Shan Wijayalal De Silva in Galle, Pasanda Yapa Abeywardana in Matara and D.V. Upul in Hambantota.
