“Back in 1987, a far-sighted banker, the late Mr. N.U. Jayawardena, saw the need for a local bank with a local culture and local values: A bank by the people for the people. Thus was born what was to become a revolutionary change agent for Sri Lanka’s banking sector,” Dhammika told a special banquet for top customers and the banking industry on Tuesday as part of the 25th year celebrations. “Sampath Bank over the course of the next two-and-a-half decades transformed Sri Lanka’s banking experience, leading the way with technological innovation and excellence in customer service,” added Dhammika, at the ceremony at which Central Bank Governor Nivard Cabraal was the Chief Guest.
The Chairman said that today Sampath Bank had grown to a network of 208 branches across the country with over 3,000 employees, apart from the bank continuing to lead in product and service innovation.
“But, ladies and gentlemen, our legacy is not just our past. It is also our future. Today I believe that we are also celebrating what we can become in the next 25 years. As we begin the next leg of this journey, we embrace change as the only constant in delivering value, creating wealth and making progressive steps towards continuing to change the face of Sri Lanka’s banking sector,” Sampath Bank Chairman Dhammika added.
In his speech, Dhammika also invited the cream of private sector and banking industry to join him in celebrating an admirable past and an outstanding future.
