Nestlé Lanka Plc yesterday said a new Managing Director will be appointed from 1 January 2013, with the incumbent Alois Hoftbauer taking up a new role in Asia.



The new Managing Director will be Nestlé’s Head of Sales of South Asia region Ganesan Ampalavanar, a Malaysian.



Hoftbauer, who assumed duties in Sri Lanka in 2010, will take up a new assignment as the Managing Director of Nestlé Malaysia and Head of the Malaysia/Singapore region for the global food giant, which styles itself locally as Sri Lanka’s leading nutrition, health, and wellness company. Nestlé Lanka is also the sixth most valuable company listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange.

Nestle Lanka said Hofbauer’s move is in line with a stream of global Senior Management changes and will take on his new role effective February 01, 2013.

Ganesan started his career with Nestlé Malaysia in 1991 as a Management Trainee. There, his early career moved through successive appointments in brand management, eventually to the position of Commercial Manager, Confectionary.

In 2011, he moved into sales, first as Brand Manager and was then promoted to Sales Director Malaysia in 2003. He took up his first international assignment in his current position as Head of Sales Nestlé India in March 2008.

Ganesan graduated in Management (Accounting and Finance) from Universiti Sains Malaysia in Penang and has attended post graduate programs at International Management Development, Switzerland.

Nestle Lanka said under the stewardship of Hoftbauer the Company has seen a 20% growth and won a number of prestigious accolades for sustainable performance and contribution to the country’s rural development, most notably its crowning as the country’s Best Corporate Citizen for 2011.

Under his tenure, the company celebrated its highest ever fresh milk intake of over five million liters in the month of September 2012 and expects to pay LKR 2.6 billion, the highest in Nestle’ history, to the rural farmers this year.

Hoftbauer, a graduate of the prestigious Swiss Business School IMD, joined Nestlé Austria in 1990 and holds over 20 years of strong international experience in the global food and beverage industry with Nestlé.

His powerful leadership skills and in-depth operational expertise in almost every product category Nestlé is present in across the world, together with his widespread experience in senior management positions in sales, marketing and general management, has shaped his notable career profile today.
