“At Oriflame we believe in creating a better, more beautiful tomorrow, for ourselves and our families and for our children of tomorrow. That’s why we are so committed to sustainability and to caring for nature,” says Oriflame Sri Lanka Country Director Lasanthi Fernando. As a global beauty brand, Oriflame produces and distributes millions of products in over 60 countries, so having an impact on nature is unavoidable.
“The company strives to minimise this impact with sustainability initiatives that help to protect our climate, forests and water, so we can feel proud to represent Oriflame and sell our products.
“We believe that to succeed long-term, we need to become a fully sustainable beauty company. Achieving this is an ongoing journey, and one we are deeply committed to. Our sustainability strategy reflects our Swedish brand attributes and focuses on increasing our positive impact areas while reducing our environmental footprint,” added Fernando.
“Our sustainability strategy has three core focus areas: Opportunities for Brand Partners, Respect for Nature and Passion for People. Respecting nature starts by truly valuing what it provides, such as clean air and water, a stable climate, fertile soil, and rich biodiversity. Our aim to become a sustainable company is reflected in a number of environmental initiatives. Globally our efforts resulted in more than nine million trees being planted and protected in reforestation and forest protection projects since 2019. We also actively reuse and recycle material in our daily operations in a significant manner.”
In Sri Lanka, this year Oriflame chose to be part of a large tree planting effort in the north in Palali. Together with Sri Lanka Police in Palali and social media activist Nalaka Senadeera, Oriflame gifted and commenced planting 1,000 jak trees with residents of Jaffna, a plant chosen specifically due to its versatility.
“While providing all benefits of trees we also hope the beneficiaries would enjoy its fruits in the future. Oriflame has been part of creating a better tomorrow for the people in Jaffna since 2009 through our presence, by providing an income opportunity, we are especially glad to contribute to the betterment of our environment with the involvement of our brand partners this year,” said Fernando.
