By M. Farook Lantra The Zahira Old Boys Rugby Association (ZOBRA) is organising the Zahira Mini Rugby Carnival 2013 which will kick off on 6 October 2013. This is the second year of this tournament, which was inaugurated last year in celebration of 120 years of college excellence. This is an interschool rugby tournament with 12 under 12 and under 14 teams participating this year. Zahira College is one of the pioneer rugby playing schools in the island. ZOBRA is a neutral college body established in 2010 by old ruggerites of the college. Present President of ZOBRA is Nazeem Ghaffoor. The main objective of the association is to regain the college’s rugby glory.  As a result, ZOBRA initiated a project, ‘ZOBRA Rugby Nursery’ in 2010. This project was a huge success. ZOBRA was able to pick some talented players who now represent college Under 12 and Under 14 rugby teams. These these alented players will display their skills at the ‘Zahira Mini Rugby Carnival – 2013’. Twelve teams will be divided for four groups in first round and based on the first round the teams will be drawn into three categories as Cup, Plate, and Bowl championship. These champions will walk away with the trophy, fabulous medals and other gifts. The Project Chairman for this event is Fawmy Hameed. The main sponsors to make this event a reality are Q.P. Employment, M.Z.M. Anver & Sons and Angora Advertising. Participating schools are Ananda College, St. Thomas Prep, Mahanama College, D.S. Senanayake College, Prince of Wales, St. Joseph’s College, Mahinda College Galle, St. Benedict’s College, C.W.W. Kannangara, Zahira College ‘A’ and ‘B’ and Science College (10 A side tournament).
