Zahira College won the All Island C Division Basketball Championship defeating Hejazz International School 73-53 in the final match played at St. Josephs’ College Court on Tuesday.
The tournament was organised by the Sri Lanka Schools Basketball Association.
Both teams played a good game with scintillating moves which made the game open till the last few minutes. But it was Zahira who sealed the victory with a fine display of attack spearheaded by the captain, M. Rifkhan Nilafir who was adjudged the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament.
Zahira qualified to the finals beating Thurstan College in the Semi Finals while Hejazz International beating Science College. The 3rd place was secured by Thurstan College in the match played at same venue.
Ashfan Lye of Zahira College was adjudged the Best Defensive Player of the Tournament.
It is a noteworthy achievement in the annals of Zahira College Basketball since it is the second year since the game was reintroduced to the school.
