Zahira College Colombo’s The Group of 90 (G90s) held its Sports Festival 2016 among the old boys for the 10th consecutive year at the College grounds recently.
The intention of organising a festival of this nature is primarily to foster goodwill among the old boys and to generate funds for the development of college infrastructure, student education and extracurricular activities.
The Organising Committee of this festival lined up several events for the old boys as well as for the present students of the college. This year included a six-a-side softball cricket tournament, six-a-side soccer tournament, tag rugby tournament, and an exhibition soccer match between Zahira Veterans and Gampola Zahira Veterans.
The winning team captains of the Western Youngsters (Soccer), 2010 Batch (Rugby) and 2003 Batch (Cricket) received their awards, gold medals and certificates.
The Chief Guest Old Boys Association President M.U.M. Azmi, Zahira College Principal Trizvi Marikkar, Board Governor Alavi Mukthar, G90 President N.M. Shiraz, Project Chairman A.R.M. Infiyaaz, Secretary Malik Hannan, Main Sponsor of the event Banu Man Power Consultants in Sri Lanka Managing Partner M.B.M. Naizer, Prefect of Games Mushin Ariff and Senior Vice Principal Ananda Ponnemperuma presented trophies, medals and certificates to the winning teams.
