Zahira College Colombo’s 3rd Cricket Academy Carnival 2013 was held at the College Grounds recently. Riders, Strikers, Thunders, Hitters, Stars, Rockers, Titans, Warriors and Giant teams participated in this carnival. The Under 11 final match Stars team defeated the Thunders team and the Under 12 final Warriors team defeated the Strikers team.
Chief Guest of the event, Head of Cricket Operation Sri Lanka Cricket Carlton Bernardos said Zahira had excelled in sports, not only cricket but also soccer. Noting that Under 19 cricket and now junior level were also in a good position, he praised Zahira and wished the college all the best in the future in all sports activities.
The Captains of the under 11 Stars team Muard Nazeer and under 12 Strikers team Mohamed Rinaz received the awards from the Chief Guest, Guest of Honour Sri Lanka Fast Bowler and National Player Chanaka Welegedara, Principal Trizvi Marikkar, Cricket Committee Chairman Milhan Lafir, Sports Council Chairman Tony Amith and Deputy Chairman M.S.M. Mazeer, who distributed awards, gold medals and certificates to the winners.
Vice Principal M. Shazuli, Cricket Academy Teacher in Charge K.Y. Sanjeewani Perera, Master in Charge M.R.D. Hameem, Director Academy M.R.A. Razak, former Academy Director Akram Moulana, Group of 80 President Feroz Inham, Head Coach Safraz Zarook, Assistant Coaches Mohamed Shameer and Mohamed Ishthiyaq and Members of the Academy were also present.
