Mount Lavinia Hotel was the preferred hotel of the visiting Japanese wrestling legend, Inoki Kanji, during his stay in Sri Lanka as Chief Guest for the WBO Women’s World Title Boxing Championship hosted at Stein Studio, Ratmalana. Inoki’s stay at Mount Lavinia Hotel adds to the list of world famous personalities who have patronised the ‘Governor’s Mansion’.

Inoki is well known by the ring name ‘Antonio Inoki’, and is a retired professional wrestler and mixed martial artist turned wrestling promoter and politician. He is also well known for his bout with legendary Muhammad Ali in Tokyo in 1976. The result of this encounter led to much controversy and is believed to be a precursor to modern mixed martial arts.

“We were pleased to have a distinguished guest like Antonio Inoki at Mount Lavinia Hotel. His fame as an international professional wrestler, and his famous encounter with the ‘one and only’ Muhammad Ali, has brought us, the host, much prestige, as he penned his signature on our VIP Book”, commented Harinda Weerasinghe, Resident Manager of Mount Lavinia Hotel.
