Emerald dresses SL National Cricket team in novel attire

The Sri Lankan cricket team left Sri Lanka over the weekend to embark on their tour Down Under. The captain and his men were seen beaming with confidence amidst a huge gathering at SLC premises to wish them farewell.

However, remarkably, what caught the attention of most gathered and created a buzz was the novel attire of the players, which had been designed especially for the tour Down Under. This is possibly the first time SLC has ventured out from the custom of wearing the traditional attire of plain white or light blue and what a smart difference it made.

The white pinstriped shirts with the national lion embroidered on the pocket along with the two national flags embroidered on the cuff placket made our smart warriors look their leonine best. The shirts have also been customised with the words ‘Sri Lanka tour of Australia 2010’.

Indeed, skipper Kumar Sangakkara’s optimism at the press conference to launch ‘Emerald International’ as the ‘Official Formal Wear Provider for Sri Lanka Cricket’ has been amply proved. He then stated: “It is important that we look our best specially on overseas tours as we carry the national pride and this collaboration with Emerald is sure to bring out same.”

“This new release I am sure is a confident step in justifying the trust and confidence that SLC had in appointing Emerald as the Official Formal Wear Provider to SLC.”

Marketing Manager Emerald Rimaz Marzook, commenting on the new release and the organisation’s future vision in making similar fashion statements, said: “Yes, we are known world over to be a very versatile and durable brand, but I wish to stress that in the field of fashion too we are a superior brand and are in the process of amplifying our resources to become more so.”

Answering a question as to whether this Australian tour shirt will be released as a collection, he said: “Yes, for the first time in Sri Lanka we hope to release a tour shirt as memorabilia, which will be available in a very limited quantity at our finer dealers islandwide.”

It is truly a proud moment not only for Emerald but all patriotic Sri Lankans to see two international Sri Lankan brands complementing and supporting each other in combating international competition.
